[Reading#1] The development of "Groundswell" from Taobao platform
I'm a person who doesn't like reading books. Every time when I open the book, I will think it's very troublesome to read the words, and it looks very inconvenient. But a few days ago, I started reading a book called "groundswell" with patience. The reason is very simple, because the content of this book is just the content of my internship when I study in university: How to connect you and me with new media.
My undergraduate internship is a planning company, often do the planning to the stars and the company. There are two things what I need to do, the first is sent e-mail to all reporters, notify them to participate in the press conference, the the second is writing a press release after the press conference , and sent to a reporter. I would like turn on the computer next morning and look at the news on the Internet, every time when I knew people read my press release through TV, computers and newspapers, my heart's excitement can't be described in words. At this time, I always sigh that the information technology in the society is so advanced that we can know everything from other people's words, and that is what the GROUNDWELLS said : "A social trend in which people use technologies to get the things they need from each other, rather than from traditional institutions like corporation". Living in the highly developed society of information technology world, we can know all kinds of stories or news that happen in different countries through various channels, and we can learn something that interests you by talking with others. In the book "Groundswell" , the author mainly talked about the "relationship are everything",from the first chapter and the second chapter. The development of a company or a website is not only the technical level, but how to spread the message through mutual contact customers, but also as much as possible to listen to the voice of the customer. The next thing I want to mention is a well-known electric business: Taobao (www.taobao.com)
Taobao is China's largest online shopping platform ( similar with Amazon), with an average annual turnover of over one trillion and five hundred billion yuan, so Taobao's emergence has brought great convenience to people.
Two years ago, Taobao only allowed buyers to communicate with customer service, and only buyers can leave messages in the message area below, people who didn't buy products had no right to leave messages. But now Taobao not only set up an interactive platform, allowing people who have not purchased goods to consult commodity information to customers who have purchased commodities, but also set up questioning areas, anyone can ask questions or discuss.

After the new function is introduced, people can help others to understand the property of the goods by consulting other sellers or leaving the goods in the message area. Now Taobao does not need the company to carry out the word of mouth publicity, the customer's strength is enough to promote the operation of the information society, as mentioned in the book:“The groundswell has changed the balance of power."(Li,13) Now Taobao is well aware what the meaning of concentrate on the relationships, not the technologies. I believe that with the promotion of groundswell, information technology will spread to all corners of the world, and people will get more knowledge and ideas through information sharing.

Tracy you did well this time in your experience and Taobao case. Firstly you tell the story of yourself about what you learned from Groundswell and then you use Taobao platform as the way to highlight the significance of relationships, which is the heart of Groundswell to operate and master. I really appreciate your idea of writing this post. Then I think you can find some images about the market and readings, that's be more strategic.
ReplyDeleteAfter seeing the picture introducing the interaction function on Taobao platform for customers, I feel interested and clicked in. This function is the most practical and nice thing Taobao did in these two years since buyers could connect each other more closely. Now that customers can tell the truths of the products sold online directly to potential buyers makes Taobao a more credible online shopping website.
